Wendy co-operates a non-profit organization, HI SIS, which provides essential electrolysis hair removal services to transgender and non-binary individuals who face barriers to accessing affirming care. Recently, HI SIS has expanded into an inclusive med spa, serving the LGBTQ community in Honolulu, leveraging Wendy's entrepreneurial skills honed across various career paths to significantly grow the organization. In just two years, she has helped scale the business, achieving a remarkable fivefold increase in revenue.
Her entrepreneurial journey took a significant leap when she traveled to Oklahoma to participate in The Blox, dubbed "the greatest competition reality show for entrepreneurs on the planet," a fusion of "Shark Tank" and "The Apprentice." This experience greatly enhanced her business acumen, leading to the genesis of a new startup, of which you have now discovered
Wendy's robust professional background is rooted in the mental health field, with a postgraduate degree in Clinical Psychology. She has engaged with unhoused, dual diagnosis, and queer populations through various roles, including as a Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Specialist at a large FQHC and as Chief Operating Officer of a, now large and corporate, psychotherapy practice. Her advocacy for marginalized communities is driven by a passion for a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the impacts of colonialism and intergenerational oppression. Wendy has been honored with the Dennis and Judy Shepard Family Values Award for her support of the LGBTQ+ community and has been featured in the media on outlets such as CNN, Hawaii News Now, Civil Beat, and Hawaii Public Radio. Wendy was also featured in Prescribing Hope, which won the first place Associated Press Television and Radio Association award for Best Documentary.
